Hen House Helper Egg-Based Potluck!
by Sharon Gaughan, PCLF Education Program
Director
Last Saturday, Anya and I hosted an
egg-based potluck for our Hen House Helper (HHH) volunteers! We had a nice turn-out – and enjoyed some
very delicious food! My personal
favorite might have been the caramel flan – but, really, everything was
delicious!
After eating and doing a quick, initial clean-up, we went out
into the cold to visit our chicken flock.
The kids (and some of the adults, too!) spread some fresh straw for the
chickens in the still snow-covered chicken yard, then offered them handfuls of
scratch to eat.
While Anya took photos of some of the kids holding the chickens, I went into the Egg Wash Station to mix up some “chicken gruel” – and the chickens amused us all with their gruel-eating antics.

We sent each family home with a dozen eggs
from our hens – a sincere thank you from us (and from our hens) for the
dedicated work our HHH’s do each and every week!
It was a very pleasant Saturday afternoon,
shared with like-minded chicken enthusiasts!
We hope to host additional potlucks and/or other HHH events, to help keep
us connected with each other and with our chicken flock.
